Alert Details

Black cutworm migration risks return to the forecast by next week as the weather pattern is expected to shift to southwest flow in contrast to northwest or westerly flow that has been in place for the past week. With this expected shift to a southerly direction, the possibility for some black cutworm migration events is expected to increase beginning early next week. Low black cutworm migration risks are predicted Monday night into Tuesday morning especially along and north of I-80 and mainly west of the Mississippi River as high pressure settles into the southeast United States and low pressure develops across the western Plains states. Growers all across the corn-growing region should be scouting newly-emerged corn as black cutworms may be affecting these plants from late March into April moth flights.
