Alert Details

A strong storm system is expected to track from the central Plains states into the heart of the corn-growing region by late this week and into next weekend. Southerly winds will increase to the east of the low pressure system and may result in at least isolated to potentially scattered black cutworm moth flights especially by Thursday night into Friday morning mainly along and east of a line from Topeka, Kansas to Sioux Falls, South Dakota into the I-69 corridor in eastern Indiana and south central lower Michigan, and as far north as the I-90 corridor. Low risks are in place for Thursday night into Friday morning, but Moderate risks enter the picture by Friday night into Saturday from central and southern Illinois east into Indiana, western Ohio, and southern lower Michigan as winds increase and originate from a more favorable black cutworm source region.
