Alert Details

Moderate black cutworm migration risks continue in the forecast tonight into tomorrow as south to southwest winds persist especially across the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region. The Moderate risk area includes portions of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and southern lower Michigan with Low risks extending from eastern Kansas, Iowa, and southeast Minnesota as far east as extreme southern Ontario, Canada and central/eastern Ohio. Low migration risks are in the forecast tomorrow night into Thursday mainly from I-57 in eastern Illinois and points east as southerly wind flow remains but in a weaker state and this same area may also see an increase in rainfall that may limit overall flights. Little if any additional migration risk is predicted after Thursday, but growers should monitor traps and also continue with heat unit accumulation calculations from any documented flights in late March or early April to determine emergence dates with earlier planted corn.
