Alert Details

Low corn earworm migration risks enter the forecast beginning on Friday night mainly from Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois north as far as southern Minnesota and Wisconsin as a good fetch of southerly winds sets up from active corn earworm source regions in the mid-south and southern states. Moth populations are building in these areas, and a few moths may decide to fly north into the corn-growing region this weekend on the increasing southerly winds. Additional moth flights may occur a little further east Saturday into Saturday night, as well, with southwest lower Michigan and Indiana potentially seeing some moths, also. While the majority of corn fields are not at a susceptible stage to damage at this point given late planting in most areas this year, vegetable and fresh market growers may have some plants near or in potential damage stages, thus the risk in the forecast.
