Alert Details

Low corn earworm migration risks are predicted tonight into midday Friday primarily across the eastern two-thirds of Kansas and into western Missouri as southerly flow straight north out of Texas continues in this region. Isolated moth flights will be possible, thus the Low risk especially to the southeast of expected showers/thunderstorms. An additional Low risk has been introduced into the forecast for Sunday night into Monday morning across a slightly larger area from Kansas and western Missouri north into eastern Nebraska and western Iowa as a pretty good fetch of southerly winds and possible precipitation may serve as a drop zone for at least a few migrating corn earworm moths, again out of Texas by that time. Risks are being kept lower despite a somewhat favorable weather pattern for migration due to host plants in the south still being attractive to corn earworm moths, and an unfavorable time of year in the corn-growing region with crops not presently at a susceptible stage of damage.
