Alert Details

Corn rootworms may continue to affect some fields, especially in the upper Midwest, for the next week but the overall threat from this insect is passing for this growing season. Growers, however, should continue to monitor beetle populations and if threshold values are met or exceeded, a change to planting practices may be needed next growing season. High risks remain in the forecast from the eastern Dakotas into northeast Nebraska, northern Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, northern Illinois, far northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. The risk has been reduced into the Moderate category by late week and into next weekend as the overall threat should become more isolated to scattered in nature, especially as expected warmer than average temperatures advance the crop past critical growth stages in many areas in the next week. Risks are likely to be removed from the forecast entirely in the next week as the threat from this insect ends for this growing season.
