Alert Details

Corn rootworm beetle populations may continue to build in some areas of the corn-growing region in the week ahead. Growers with fresh silks across Kansas, Nebraska, South and North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and southern Ontario, Canada should continue to scout fields and complete beetle counts to determine if any treatment is necessary. Even in areas where counts may not quite reach threshold levels, it will be important to consider potential adjustments to next year’s planting rotation, where possible, to reduce potential corn rootworm issues next year. Risks are being reduced across the southern portion of the risk area as the majority of crops are past critical stages where rootworms should be causing problems.
