Alert Details

Corn rootworm hatches and potential root feeding damage risks will continue across much of the corn-growing region this week. Additionally, we could see some beetles especially in the southern portions of the corn-growing region where corn rootworms are present as heat unit accumulations continue to increase. New hatches should be focused along and north of the I-90 corridor by this point, and more likely further north into the I-94 corridor from the Dakotas into Minnesota, Wisconsin, and lower Michigan as well as potentially into southern Ontario, Canada. Growers should dig up roots, both in corn and soybean fields, including any volunteer corn, to determine if corn rootworm populations are present. Fields most susceptible are those that have historically had corn rootworm populations in the area and also continuous corn fields. High risks will continue in the next week across eastern Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South and North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada.
