Alert Details

Corn rootworm risks remain on the High side this week across much of the corn-growing region. Most hatches are now complete except perhaps in the far northern reaches of the corn-growing region, with adult beetle emergence now common across most fields where this particular insect is present. Growers with fresh silks should be scouting their crops and monitoring beetle populations as well as potential silk-clipping where populations are higher. Even if economic thresholds are not being met, growers should take note of populations present and plan ahead for next year as local populations may lead to adjustments in planting decisions for next growing season. Fields in eastern Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South and North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, lower Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and into southern Ontario, Canada are all at risk in the week and weekend ahead.
