Alert Details

Corn rootworm hatch risks will continue this week but now mainly north of the I-94 corridor, especially in northeast South Dakota, North Dakota, northwest Minnesota, and southeast further into northern Wisconsin and the northern lower peninsula of Michigan. Additional new hatches are possible into Ontario, Canada, as well. Elsewhere, beetle emergence and population increase risks are the primary concern, and growers all across the corn-growing region should be scouting fields for corn rootworms especially if located in an area with previous problems with corn rootworms and/or where corn rootworm resistance to protective traits has occurred. Problems are likely to be more scattered and potentially less intense this year given excessive soil moisture/rainfall present around the time of hatch in many areas, but growers should not let their guards down despite the possibility of less pressure this year.
