Alert Details

Initial corn rootworm hatch risks are expected to increase and expand in coverage this week as accumulated soil temperature heat units approach or exceed initial hatch thresholds. Moderate hatch risks are in place initially across eastern Missouri into southern and southeast Illinois as well as into western and central Indiana. Additional Low hatch risks are possible in southwest Kansas. By late week and into next weekend, as temperatures remain generally above average for the date, the Moderate risk area expands across much of Kansas, northern/central Missouri, central and southern Illinois, and into central Indiana. The Moderate risk area in Illinois and Indiana at the start of the week has been upgraded to a High risk by late this week as more widespread hatches are expected. Growers in or near the Moderate/High risk areas should dig up roots and determine if corn rootworm populations are present especially in fields with more advanced crop growth/earlier plantings.
