Corn rootworm hatch risks will continue to expand north as air and soil temperatures continue to increase. High initial hatch risks are found from Kansas into southeast Nebraska, Missouri, central and southern Iowa, far southwest Wisconsin, much of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and into southwest and southern lower Michigan. Moderate risks for more scattered hatches are predicted from eastern Colorado into northwest and western Kansas, Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, northern Iowa, southern Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, northeast Illinois, far northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, and into portions of central/southern lower Michigan as well as southern Ontario, Canada. Growers should dig up roots and determine if corn rootworm populations are present if located in or near the risk area.
