Alert Details

Corn rootworm hatch risks are predicted to continue to spread to the north as accumulated soil temperature heat unit measurements reach or exceed initial hatch thresholds. This process has likely been accelerated with recent very warm to hot temperatures and generally only small or no precipitation amounts in some areas. High risks are predicted from eastern Colorado into Kansas, central and eastern Nebraska, eastern South Dakota, central and southern Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, southern Wisconsin, southern lower Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and southern Ontario, Canada. Growers are encouraged to begin or continue scouting programs in or near the risk area by digging up roots (both in corn and soybean fields) and determining if larvae populations are present.
