Alert Details

Soybean aphid egg hatch is predicted to continue especially along and north of I-90 in the next week. It should be noted, however, that it is possible that many soybean aphids that recently hatched may have been killed off in the last week with low temperatures across this same region falling to killing freeze and lower levels in the last week. A similar situation occurred last year with egg hatch and a killing freeze occurring a short time later. This particular freeze was more widespread than last year, so initial soybean aphid populations this spring may be rather low once again. Growers should be advised that the soybean aphid egg hatch risks are being issued to provide an awareness that soybean aphids are becoming active this growing season – it does not mean you need to check or scout your fields for any problems at this time.
