Alert Details

Moderate soybean aphid risks continue in the forecast for the next week across a good portion of the upper Midwest, including the southern Great Lakes region and southwest Ontario, Canada. Scattered reports of soybean aphids reaching or exceeding threshold values continue to come in especially west of Lake Michigan, but the presence of soybean aphids in some areas east of the lake and expected favorable weather conditions in the next week has led to an inclusion of a Moderate risk area east of Lake Michigan as well in the week ahead. Growers from the eastern Dakotas into far northeast Nebraska, northern Iowa, much of Minnesota, central and southern Wisconsin, central and southern lower Michigan, far northern Indiana and Ohio, and southwest Ontario, Canada should be actively scouting soybean fields this week and monitor soybean aphid population trends. Problems are scattered and are expected to remain scattered this growing season, so even though a field that has reached economic threshold or worse right next door may exist, that does not necessarily mean that your field is in need of treatment. Growers located west of Lake Michigan should monitor fields very closely over the next several days as some new migrants may have arrived on gusty west to northwest winds in the last 24-36 hours.
