Alert Details

Western bean cutworms continue their annual flight in the usual “hot spots” for this insect, with High risks remaining in the forecast across portions of central/southern Nebraska with Moderate risks surrounding the High risk in far northern Kansas, extreme northeast Colorado, and further west/north/east into Nebraska. Additional Moderate risks are found across the Great Lakes region in Wisconsin, northern Indiana, extreme northwest Ohio, central/southern lower Michigan, and further northeast into southern Ontario, Canada in the week ahead. There are some early signs that the flight is beginning to subside especially in the southern reaches of the Plains risk area and also in Indiana, but numerous reports of widespread egg laying/hatching and moth presence remains in all of the risk areas so growers with crops at critical growth stages are strongly encouraged to continue scouting and trapping efforts until the flight subsides and/or plants move past critical growth stages.
