Alert Details

Western bean cutworm emergence is likely to continue across an increasingly greater portion of the corn-growing region in the next five days. The primary focus regions, however, are across Nebraska and Kansas and also the Great Lakes region and southern Canada. Peak emergence is likely occurring across portions of Kansas and Nebraska now, but with crops not quite at a stage where damage could occur at this point, only a Moderate risk is in place across this region but growers that were able to plant early in this region should be monitoring their fields closely for moth activity and egg laying. Elsewhere, Low risks are in place from Iowa and Missouri northeast into northern Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, and northern sections of Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and also southern and south central Ontario, Canada.
