Western Bean Cutworm
The annual emergence and flight of western bean cutworm is underway across a large portion of the corn-growing region. High risks are in place across portions of Nebraska and Iowa in addition to much of the Great Lakes region (including northeast Indiana, northern Ohio, lower Michigan, and southwest Ontario, Canada) in the next five days. Moderate risks cover fields from Nebraska into Iowa, southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, northern/northwest Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and Ontario, Canada. Trap counts continue to increase across a large portion of the Great Lakes region and also in areas further to the west. Growers in an area with increased risks predicted should continue to monitor their fields for potential moth and egg laying activity in the next several weeks.
