Alert Details

Western bean cutworms are predicted to continue to impact scattered fields across portions of the corn-growing region in the next week. High risks remain for peak flight or near peak flight moth counts from Nebraska into far northwest Missouri, Iowa, far southeast South Dakota, far southeast Minnesota, Wisconsin, and also into lower Michigan and southern Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks remain in place from Nebraska into South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, far northern Missouri, far northwest Illinois, Wisconsin, lower Michigan, northern Indiana, northern Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania and New York, and also southwest Ontario, Canada. Growers located in the High and Moderate risk areas should monitor their crops for signs of western bean cutworms and take appropriate action if needed. Problems are not widespread and many areas are not seeing moth counts and pressure as high as previous years so scouting of local fields will be important to determine the risk.
