Alert Details

Western bean cutworms may begin to emerge especially across portions of northern Kansas and southern Nebraska by next week. Additional emergence may be observed next week in sandier soils in extreme southwest Ontario, Canada where moth captures have been the highest in the past few years. Heat unit accumulations specific for the emergence and development of this insect are nearing emergence thresholds especially in Kansas and southern Nebraska, while soil conditions and historic data support emergence in southwest Ontario, Canada in the next week. Initial moth captures are expected to be rather low, but they will indicate that the annual flight for this particular insect is beginning for the 2014 growing season.
