Alert Details

Western bean cutworm moth flights continue in select portions of the corn-growing region but are beginning to subside in some areas as heat unit accumulations continue to grow. Moderate risks remain in place across northeast Nebraska, northwest Iowa, and into southeast South Dakota as well as in northern Wisconsin, much of lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario and southwest Quebec, Canada. Low risks remain in place from Nebraska and South Dakota east into Minnesota, Iowa, far northwest Missouri, northern Illinois, Wisconsin, far northern Indiana and Ohio, lower Michigan, northwest Pennsylvania, northwest and upstate New York, and southern Ontario and Quebec, Canada. Growers especially located in the Moderate risk regions should continue to monitor moth trap captures as well as fields still at susceptible stages to damage. Even if no moths are caught, there may still be egg masses that appear on leaves so close monitoring of fields at critical stages of growth is encouraged at least for the next week or so.
