Alert Details

The annual western bean cutworm flight is either complete or winding down in many areas, but some local hot-spots remain especially in southeast Canada where Moderate risks remain in place from southeast Ontario into southwest Quebec. Low risks for primarily isolated to localized flights, especially in late-planted corn, are in the forecast this week from northeast Nebraska where some fairly high moth captures are continuing and also into northwest Iowa, eastern South Dakota, southern and central Minnesota, central Wisconsin, central and eastern lower Michigan, and also along the southern shores of Lake Erie and Ontario in northwest Pennsylvania and northern New York state. Growers are advised that the flight has ended in many areas, but that there are still some isolated flights and late-planted fields that remain attractive to western bean cutworm at least for the next week or so. It is encouraged that growers continue to watch for fresh larvae until fields advance past critical growth stages.
