Alert Details

Low western bean cutworm emergence risks are in the forecast for the next week as some moths are now beginning to emerge especially in the usual recent hot spots in the corn-growing region. Low risks are in place across northern Kansas and north into Nebraska, and also in Wisconsin, northern Indiana, northern Ohio, southern lower Michigan, and then east into southwest lower Ontario, Canada especially late this week into the weekend. Growers who have not set out their traps yet should do so immediately, especially if western bean cutworms have caused issues in recent years or where populations have been increasing from year to year. While many crops are not at a susceptible stage to damage as of yet, this is a good time to prepare for the annual moth flight and subsequent egg-laying and potential crop damage phase which could commence in some fields in the next couple weeks.
