Western Bean Cutworm

High western bean cutworm risks are now in place across northern Indiana where moth pressure and egg laying appears to be the greatest threat at this time. Moderate risks are also found in northern Kansas, Nebraska, western Iowa, Wisconsin, eastern Illinois, northern and central Indiana, northern Ohio, and far southwest and southern Michigan. Low risks cover much of the remainder of the corn-growing region for the potential of isolated problems with this insect as it advances through its annual flight.

Low corn earworm migration risks are predicted tonight into tomorrow morning across Kansas, Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, Iowa, and northwest Missouri. Additional Low risks stretch from Kansas into southeast Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, southern Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, southern lower Michigan, western Ohio, and northwest Kentucky tomorrow night into Saturday morning. No risk is predicted thereafter.

Corn rootworm hatch and beetle risks continue across much of the corn-growing region from eastern Colorado into Kansas, Nebraska, South and North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, central and northern Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan as well as southern Ontario, Canada. Growers should continue to monitor beetle populations as well as assess roots for signs of damage and larvae populations in the next week.

Low soybean aphid risks are in place from northeast Nebraska into the eastern Dakotas, Minnesota, northern and central Iowa, northern Illinois, Wisconsin, central and southern lower Michigan, northern Indiana, northern Ohio, and southern Ontario, Canada. Growers are urged to actively scout fields that are at critical stages of growth as soybean aphid populations may continue to increase in the next week given expected favorable weather conditions.
