A quick moving weather system is expected to bring a Low corn earworm migration risk to at least the southern and central corn-growing region late this week and into the early portion of the upcoming weekend. Southerly winds in advance of a cold front along with potential scattered showers and storms along the front may combine to produce some isolated corn earworm flights initially across the Plains states and into the western corn-growing region Thursday night into Friday morning. As the front pushes east, the risk area shifts east as well and actually expands in area as more widespread but still rather light southerly winds cover a larger portion of the corn-growing region. Fields from far eastern Kansas into Iowa, southeast Minnesota, Wisconsin, and southern Michigan and points south are at risk for isolated flights Friday night into Saturday morning.

Later in the weekend and into early next week, high pressure once again pushes south into the Plains and upper Midwest. Northwest wind flow across virtually all of the corn-growing region results in a no risk forecast from Saturday night into Monday morning.
