Alert Details

Peak western bean cutworm flight continues across portions of Nebraska, far northern Kansas, northwest Missouri, and southwest Iowa. As a result, High risks remain in place for fields in these four states. More fields in the western half of Iowa, northern Missouri, and Nebraska are in the High risk by early to mid-next week as peak flight should expand east. Also, portions of central Michigan have been added to the High risk given recent reports of high moth counts and egg laying ongoing in that area. Moderate risks continue across portions of Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, northwest Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, northern Indiana, northern Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania, western New York, and southwest Ontario, Canada as well. Western bean cutworm counts are not consistent from one area to another this year, so growers are especially urged to scout and base their decisions on what is going on in their specific fields.
