Alert Details

Low corn earworm migration risks return to a portion of the Plains and Midwest regions by late in the weekend and early next week. Northwest flow is predicted to dominate the weather across much of the corn-growing region through the early portion of the weekend, but some southerly winds will make their return to the Plains states already by late week. These winds are not expected to pose a migration threat given their source region. By later in the weekend, however, as high pressure moves into the southeastern United States, the possibility for an isolated moth flight does exist into portions of Kansas, southern Nebraska, southern Iowa, and northwestern Missouri, or mainly along and south of I-80 and west of the Mississippi River as south to southwest winds spread east and encounter a more favorable source region in the mid-south. While crops are not at susceptible stages to damage, growers should be aware that at least the possibility for an isolated moth flight does exist during the Sunday night into Monday morning time frame especially as we begin to move into the time of year when first generation moth flights typically begin to occur into the Midwest.
