Black Cutworm
A very active corn-growing region weather pattern is expected to continue into the weekend, with no less than two separate systems possibly resulting in continued black cutworm migration risks. Low risks will focus mainly along/south of the US20 corridor tonight into tomorrow as the first system moves through the region. Some moths may make it into far southern Wisconsin and far southwest lower Michigan but better chances do appear focused south of I-80 in better wind fields both at the surface and aloft. Moderate risks have been placed in the forecast for tomorrow night into Friday morning mainly along/east of the I-57 corridor in eastern Illinois, and include far eastern Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and southern lower Michigan as a cold front moves east in association with this first system. Low risks do extend back west as far as Kansas as the second system takes shape in the Plains states. Moderate risks then focus a little further west from eastern Missouri and east of the Mississippi River Friday night into Saturday as a corridor of rather strong south to southwest winds sets up east of a cold front at that time. Little to no migration risk is anticipated after Saturday through early next week.
