Alert Details

Black cutworm migration risks will be in the forecast on a nightly basis right into next week as a rather active forecast remains across much of the corn-growing region. The need for an increase in the risk level is still possible especially heading into the weekend and potentially early next week, but some timing and placement differences still precludes a risk upgrade at this time. Low risks focus along and east of a cold front tonight into tomorrow from Kansas into Iowa and southeast Wisconsin and points east to near I-75, as a corridor of south to southwest winds remains in place ahead of this front. Risks then focus mainly along and south of I-80 Thursday night into Friday as the cold front becomes stationary. As the next weather system takes shape in the Plains, Low risks then focus back west, mainly west of Lake Michigan Saturday night into Sunday with an eastward expansion Sunday night into Monday. Moderate risks are likely to be placed in the forecast as early as tomorrow especially for the Sunday night and Monday time frame once forecast confidence increases.
