Alert Details

The active weather pattern will continue across much of the corn-growing region over the next week and likely beyond. The result will be periodic rain chances but also the possibility of continued black cutworm moth flights especially given what could be a fairly prolonged, several day period of a direct wind feed from source regions in Texas beginning later today and continuing into at least next Tuesday or Wednesday. Low risks are predicted tonight into tomorrow mainly west of I-35 and I-49 as southerly winds begin to increase ahead of developing low pressure in the High Plains. Moderate risks enter the forecast tomorrow night into Sunday, however, and continue into at least Tuesday next week. Initially, the Moderate risk area is focused along/west of Lake Michigan and the I-55 corridor into Sunday morning, but then shifts east and includes virtually the whole of the corn-growing region along/east of I-35 from later Sunday into at least Tuesday as a series of low pressure systems keep south to southwest winds blowing along/east of a cold front situated from the northern Great Lakes southwest into the central Plains. Growers are encouraged to monitor traps for new black cutworm moth flights over the next week!
