Alert Details

A very active weather pattern is expected to continue across the corn-growing region for the next week and likely into the following week, as well. Black cutworm migration risks, as a result, will remain elevated for several days this week and into next weekend, as well, and also across a large portion of the corn-growing region at least at some point in the next 5-6 days with two separate primary weather systems expected to pass through. Moderate risks focus tonight into tomorrow night from far eastern Kansas into Missouri, eastern Iowa, southern Wisconsin, and points south/east to east of the I-75 corridor. This area is where south to southwest winds are likely to be the strongest and most persistent. The Moderate risk then shifts southeast a little bit tomorrow night into Wednesday from Missouri into far eastern Iowa and southeast Wisconsin and points southeast. By late week and into next weekend, there are signs of at least a little bit more of a progressive weather pattern yet still active. Moderate migration risks are found mainly west of I-35 Thursday night into Friday ahead of a cold front, and then east of the Mississippi River, primarily, by Friday night into Saturday. Growers are encouraged to continue to monitor traps for signs of new flights. There have already been several documented black cutworm moth flights into portions of the corn-growing region in the past few weeks and even back into March, as well.
