Alert Details

Black cutworm migration risks continue in the forecast on a nightly basis until a cold front passes through the corn-growing region by Saturday or Saturday night, finally temporarily ending what has been a rather persistent south to southwest flow weather pattern. Until that point, however, we need to be vigilant with trap monitoring as moth flights will continue to be possible. Low risks are predicted mainly east of I-35 tonight into tomorrow, but Moderate risks are back in the forecast already by tomorrow night into Friday mainly west of the Mississippi River except in western Wisconsin. Some isolated moth flights are possible as far north as North Dakota and northern Minnesota tomorrow night into Friday. Moderate risks then focus along/east of the cold front, mainly from Missouri and eastern Iowa into southern Wisconsin and points east to near I-75 Friday night into Saturday. The front does look to clear eastern corn-growing fields by late Saturday so little to no additional migration risk is predicted after Saturday morning as much cooler and drier weather returns into at least early next week on northwest flow.
