Alert Details

A strong cold front will pass through the entire corn-growing region by late Saturday. Before this front passes, however, south to southwest winds will continue to be prevalent to its east and may pose a risk of scattered black cutworm moth migration both tonight and tomorrow night. Moderate risks are predicted across portions of Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin tonight into tomorrow morning, with the risk then generally focused along/east of the Mississippi River tomorrow night into Saturday morning as the front moves southeast. Once this front passes through, little to no migration risk is predicted for the rest of the weekend and into early next week. Growers should continue to regularly check traps as flights have been documented in some areas and some of these flights may produce generations that impact newly-emerged corn especially as we head into May.
