Black Cutworm
A strong cold front will pass through much of the corn-growing region by tomorrow night. South to southwest winds will be common east of this front, and showers/thunderstorms will occur along/ahead of the front, as well. The exact location of these storms will be critical to black cutworm migration parameters, and it does appear the storms may occur a little further east than expected yesterday. The end result will be a trimming of the Moderate risk in portions of Missouri and all of Iowa, with the Moderate risk now focused from eastern Missouri into Illinois and far southeast Wisconsin and points east to east of I-75. The most favored corridor for migration probably will lie between I-55 and I-75 tomorrow night. Once this front clears the area, a much cooler and drier air mass will likely take hold and last into next week, which will greatly limit any migration prospects. Growers are encouraged to continue to monitor traps for new black cutworm moth flights over the next several days.
