Black Cutworm
A strong spring storm system is still slated to move through the corn-growing region in the next 2-3 days. Southerly winds are expected to continue to increase today and into tonight especially west of the Great Lakes, and a corridor of more focused and higher southerly winds remains possible especially along/west of the I-35 corridor. Moderate black cutworm migration risks are predicted from Kansas and Missouri as far north as southeast North Dakota, northern Minnesota, and northwest Wisconsin, with Low risks extending as far east as southwest lower Michigan, Indiana, and far western Kentucky tonight into tomorrow. As a cold front moves southeast, the corresponding migration risk region also focuses further southeast, and a Moderate risk remains in the forecast across eastern Missouri into Illinois, far southeast Wisconsin, and as far east as the I-75 corridor in southern lower Michigan, western Ohio, and central Kentucky. Little to no migration risk is predicted once this front clears eastern areas by the early part of the weekend, but we may need to introduce another risk by late in the weekend or early next week depending on the track/strength of a new storm system potential by that time.
