Alert Details

A strong cold front is expected to pass through the remainder of the corn-growing region over the next 24-48 hours. Ahead of this front, south to southwest winds will continue and may pose a scattered black cutworm migration risk especially from the southeastern half of Missouri northeast into Illinois, far southeast Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, western Ohio, and into southern lower Michigan. Low risks extend outside of the Moderate risk area from roughly I-35 eastward. Another quick-developing and moving weather system should impact at least the southeastern portion of the corn-growing region by later in the weekend and early next week, and Low black cutworm migration risks have been introduced into the forecast for Sunday night into Monday from roughly I-35 east to the I-65 and I-69 corridor and as far north as into southern Minnesota and Wisconsin. Growers need to continue trapping efforts and where corn has emerged, regular scouting is recommended to determine any potential larvae populations especially from flights in late March or early this month.
