Black Cutworm
Another low pressure system is expected to develop in the central Plains this weekend and then rapidly deepen and move northeast into the northern Great Lakes region by early next week. South to southwest winds are likely to increase east of a cold front especially by Sunday into Monday, and Low black cutworm migration risks are in the forecast from eastern Kansas, Iowa, and southern Minnesota east as far as southwest lower Michigan, Indiana, and western Kentucky at that time. This system will be rather quick-moving, so little to no additional risks are currently predicted outside of this time period. Growers should continue to monitor traps as numerous moth flights have been observed in the past several weeks to month, and scouting should be commenced in areas where corn is emerging.
