Alert Details

A strong storm system will be moving through the corn-growing region this weekend. This system is expected to track through the heart of the region across Missouri and then near the Mississippi River to the north. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected especially to its east with some locally heavy rainfall likely. Due to the expected widespread nature of the rainfall from the mid-south source region northeast into the corn-growing region, only Low black cutworm migration risks are predicted despite a favorable wind pattern starting Saturday night across Missouri east into Illinois and Indiana and then primarily east of I-57 in far eastern Illinois into the southern Great Lakes region Sunday night into Monday morning. Growers should continue to monitor traps and accumulate heat units from past flights to determine the most likely time frame for potential cutworm problems with newly emerging corn.
