Black Cutworm
Black cutworm risks return to the forecast early next week as a low pressure system develops in the Plains states and high pressure moves east from the Plains to the southern Great Lakes. Southerly winds are expected to develop and originate from source regions in Texas by that time, and may lead to some isolated black cutworm moth flights especially along and west of the Mississippi River. Growers with newly emerged corn should scout fields at this time, looking for signs of any black cutworms as new generations may now be present from one or more of the numerous moth flights that occurred in April and the early part of May.
