Alert Details

Low black cutworm migration risks accompany the next low pressure system and cold front late tomorrow into Sunday especially across the eastern half of the corn-growing region. Southerly winds are expected to increase east of the cold front but not at the magnitude that occurred Thursday night into Friday morning May 14-15, so only Low migration risks are predicted along and east of the I-35 corridor from Missouri, central Iowa, far southeast Minnesota, and east as far as southern lower Michigan and into central Ohio. Otherwise, little to no additional migration risks are predicted in the next five days as a lack of focused southerly flow is expected. Growers, however, with newly emerged corn should continue to scout those fields as flights that occurred especially in early April may now be producing larvae that could damage these plants.
