Alert Details

A cold front will move through the central and eastern corn-growing region over the next 24-36 hours and should greatly limit any black cutworm migration risks due to northwesterly flow through at least Sunday. By the end of the weekend and into next week, however, southerly flow returns once again initially to the Plains states and spreads east as we move into early next week. There are some disagreements on exactly how this will play out, but Low migration risks are predicted across the Plains states on Sunday night into Monday and then as far east as western lower Michigan into Indiana by Monday night into Tuesday. Growers with newly emerged corn should continue to scout fields, looking for signs of black cutworm cutting/damage until the crop has advanced enough in growth that cutworms are no longer of a concern.
