Alert Details

There is little to no risk for black cutworm migration in the next five days. A weather system is expected to pass through mainly the southern half of the corn-growing region this weekend but any unimpeded southerly flow should stay across mainly the mid-south and far southern reaches of the corn-growing region where most corn has already emerged and would not be at risk from larvae damage from new generations by late May or June. Growers should continue to monitor traps, scout fields where corn has emerged, and also continue heat unit calculations based on previous flights to determine when larvae may appear in local fields.
