Alert Details

An active weather pattern across the corn-growing region will lead to black cutworm migration risks over the next few nights as south to southwest winds increase ahead of a developing low pressure system. Migration risks are favored more in the eastern corn-growing region to the east of a cold front. Low risks are predicted tonight into tomorrow mainly from eastern Missouri and Illinois east into the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region as an initial weaker push of southerly winds persists. Better migration chances are in the forecast tomorrow night into Wednesday across virtually the same region but with Moderate risks focused in eastern Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana and western/central Ohio where southerly winds are expected to be stronger as low pressure deepens in the central corn-growing region. A cold front will sweep through the entire region mid-week and leave all of the area in northwest flow, ending any further migration risk for the balance of the week and into next weekend, as well.
