Alert Details

An active corn-growing region weather pattern is expected to continue for the next week or longer as a series of weather systems move through the region. Northwest flow on the back side of a deep low pressure system will keep any migration risks negligible for the next few days, but by the latter portion of the weekend and into next week that will change as southerly winds return to at least portions of the area. Low migration risks are back in the forecast as early as Saturday night into Sunday mainly from Kansas, Nebraska, and eastern South Dakota as far east as Wisconsin and Illinois as southerly winds return to this region. More widespread and likely better opportunities for migration are in the forecast especially early next week mainly east of I-35 and into the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region. Increased risks are likely in either tomorrow’s forecast issuance or early next week once confidence in the placement of where southerly winds are likely to be the strongest is higher.
