Black Cutworm
By late week and into the weekend, another low pressure system is expected to develop in the Plains states and send a cold front through much of the corn-growing region by early next week. A corridor of southerly winds is likely just east of the cold front, and may lead to some isolated moth flights. The overall setup is not quite as favorable as previous events over the past few weeks, but some isolated flights are possible Friday night into Saturday from eastern Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota as far east as western Indiana and then mainly east of the Mississippi River into the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region by Saturday night into Sunday. Growers should continue to monitor traps and document any flights as new generations from recent flights may become a factor as we begin to head into May.
