Black Cutworm
Black cutworm risks return to the forecast by late Thursday into Friday especially along/east of the I-35 corridor as a low pressure system and attendant cold front develop in the northern Plains and western/central corn-growing regions. South to southwest winds east of the front may result in some isolated moth flights to the north from mid-south source regions but the rather quick development of these winds may limit the overall flight severity. Low risks continue in the forecast both Friday and Saturday nights mainly across the southern Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region, including portions of southern Ontario, Canada, as the front moves east. Growers are encouraged to continue to monitor traps for any new flights and also take note of calculated degree days from flights last month as larvae may be appearing in some areas.
