Black Cutworm
Low pressure will continue to develop and eventually move east from the eastern Rockies late this week and into this weekend. With high pressure off the southeastern United States coast, a corridor of south to southwest winds is present across especially the western and central corn-growing region, and this may lead to some isolated black cutworm moth flights over the next few nights. Low risks are in place mainly west of I-57 in eastern Illinois and Lake Michigan with risks extending as far north as eastern South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. By Friday night into Saturday, as the low pressure deepens and moves east into Minnesota and Wisconsin, a more focused region of southerly winds as well as potential precipitation, may lead to an uptick in black cutworm captures, and a Moderate risk has been issued for portions of Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois, with Low risks as far east as lower Michigan and Ohio.
