Alert Details

For the majority of the corn-growing region, black cutworm damage is no longer anticipated due to the crop now moving into or past the critical V5 stage of growth. However, for late planted fields especially from southern Illinois east into Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan, there may still be a lingering threat from any moth flights that occur especially in the next week. A cold front is predicted to move southeast through much of the corn-growing region later tomorrow into Wednesday, and this front may provide an area of focus for at least isolated black cutworm moth flights from the mid-south region into especially southern Illinois, Indiana, western Ohio, and southern lower Michigan. This risk is targeted at fields that have been planted in the month of June and are now just emerging or have yet to emerge or be planted.
