Alert Details

A strong low pressure system is expected to impact much of the corn-growing region over the next three days. This system may not only produce some severe weather in many areas, but may also result in a decent scattered black cutworm moth flight into a large portion of the corn-growing region the next two nights. Moderate migration risks are in place tonight into tomorrow from northeast Kansas into eastern Nebraska and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, and the western half or so of Illinois into portions of western Wisconsin. This is a slightly west shift compared to Friday’s forecast. As the system moves east Tuesday into Wednesday, Moderate risks shift east, as well, into portions of Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and lower Michigan with a small portion of southwestern Ontario, Canada also included near Detroit. Growers should monitor traps regularly this week and be prepared for new moth flights. Little to no migration risk is predicted for the balance of the week and into next weekend once this system moves east.
