Black Cutworm
The corn-growing region weather pattern is expected to become much more active by late week and into next weekend, and likely into early next week, as well. No less than two separate systems look to impact much of the region during this time, and black cutworm migration risks will be on the increase as we head into the weekend and likely into at least the very first part of next week. For now, confidence is high enough to issue a broad Low risk area from the eastern Plains as far east as the Great Lakes, eastern corn-growing region, and also into southern Ontario, Canada for the weekend. Risks will focus mainly west of the Great Lakes Friday night into Saturday, and then across much of the area from later Saturday into Sunday in response to the second low pressure system developing and moving northeast by early next week. Some uncertainty remains with regards to warm front placement in between systems and how precipitation may impact boundaries, so elevated risks are not in the forecast as of yet but will likely be coming later in the week once confidence increases.
